Don Lee Navajo Burnished Carved Stoneware Vessel

A Navajo burnished red stoneware vessel by Diné (Navajo) artist Don Lee. This squat, bulbous pot is composed of burnished red stoneware, with etched designs across the surface featuring symbols and a stylized depiction of the agriculture and fertility deity, Kokopelli. After deep burnishing, it was covered in an iron oxide wash and fired. To the underside is an etched artist signature and the indigenous name for the Navajo tribe, ‘Diné’.
