Handwoven Turkish Tribal Yastik

Item Details

A handwoven Turkish tribal yastik. This wool accent rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of madder red, variegated indigo, salmon, and yellow. It begins with an eye shape at the center of the field, the eye enclosed in sawtooth diamonds within a rectangular panel. The panel rests on a red lozenge, which features in-facing hooks and arrow points at either end, the lozenge, in turn, resting on an indigo field with square medallions at each corner. Flanking the field are lateral borders, the top and bottom border segments apparently having been ripped away. These lateral borders include running dog and barber pole patterns. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at either end with unbound warp fringe made of natural brown wool and/or goat hair. The yastik is unmarked.
