Collectible 19th Century leather ‘Gladstone case’ Doctor’s style bag in brown leather with brass hardware and push lock closure, leather handle and protective studs to base with fabric lining and side pockets. Invented by English leather-worker and bag-manufacturer J.G. Beard and named for long serving Prime – Minister William E. Gladstone. A popular overnight bag in the late 19th Century and was generally used for short trips.
