An Frederick Christian Lewis aquatint engraving after an original painting by listed British artist Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851). The piece, titled The Quorn Hunt: Snob is Beat! is plate V from Alken’s Quorn Hunt series and depicts nineteenth-century horses, riders and hounds crossing over a gate in the historic English fox hunting event. The print features the series title to the top, with the plate title to the bottom margin, alongside additional notations and a caption by Charles Apperley. The print is marked “Drawn & Etched by H. Alken”, “Engraved by F. C. Lewis”, and “Published Feb 1835 by Rudolph Ackermann at his Eclipse Sporting Gallery” below the bottom edge of the image. The print is presented in a brown wooden frame with a linen liner under plexiglass.
