Alois Mayer Bronze Plated Copper Palace Vase

A bronze plated copper palace vase by German sculptor Alois Mayer (1855-1936). This late nineteenth-century palace vase has a circular base that tapers and flares into a rounded body with an elongated neck and flared rim. It features mythological relief sculptures featuring a sea nymph, a mermaid, winged putto, and a dolphin. The sculpture is accented by waves, cattails, and other water plants. It is signed to the base ‘A. Mayer’. Alois Mayer was a German sculptor working in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is most well known for his small bronze sculptures with mythological subject matter.
