An oil painting on canvas by Germany painter Johann-Hermann Carmiencke (1810-1867). This landscape painting depicts a rushing river framed by rocky shores and full trees. Two figures stand on a boulder to the left of the river with one figure pointing out towards the water. The background of this painting is filled with a cloudy blue sky above a large mountain. The painting is signed and dated in the bottom right corner and is presented in a gilded wooden frame.
Johann-Hermann Carmiencke was a German-born landscape painter and print maker. Notably, Carmiencke served as court painter to the King of Denmark from 1846-1851. After his tenure with the Danish Crown, Carmiencke settled in the United States where he became associated with the Hudson River School.

- some damage to frame and to backing board; minor loss of paint near upper right edge; canvas was relined in the 1970s; minor inpainting present throughout; more significant amount of inpainting present to the upper right corner of the canvas as well as near signature.
