A Persian vase wool area rug. This semi-rectilinear village rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cherry, ivory, and orange with prominent turquoise highlights. It begins with an ivory-grounded star medallion seeded with a small flower at the center. The medallion rests on a cherry-colored field, which features a large orange vase at the top and bottom. Fillers include roses of sharon, sweet williams, carnations, oak leaves, palmettes, and vines. The field is framed by compound borders, including a floral meander primary border over ivory and running water minor border over midnight blue or orange. Selvedges are overcast in black, the rug finishing at either end with long ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
