Hand-Knotted Wool Area Rug

Item Details

A hand-knotted area rug. This rug, likely made in India, shares many features with Anatolian or Kurdish rugs including a geometric pattern, a large portion of the rug’s area devoted to box borders, and horizontal panels at top and bottom. It begins with a red field featuring a mirrored composition of pine trees amid four hexagonal medallions, which enclose small keyhole motifs in ice blue, navy, and ivory. Framing the field are approximately sixteen borders grounded in taupe, and a pair of horizontal panels, also grounded in taupe. The universal palette is cherry red, ivory, ice blue, navy, and taupe. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. Unlabeled.
