Cast Resin Sculpture After "The Rape of the Sabine Women" by Giambologna

Item Details

A resin casting after A. Santini’s copy of Giambologna’s marble sculpture titled The Rape of the Sabine Women. Originally intended as nothing more than a demonstration of the artist’s ability to create a complex sculptural group; the subject matter from the episode from early Roman history of the rape of the Sabine women by Romulus’s companions was attributed at a later date. This recasting depicts a young man lifting a woman into the air while a second older man crouches below. It is signed ‘A. Santini’ in-mold and presented on a stained wooden base.
