Gorges Laratte Scuptures
Item Details
A pair of wood sculptures by Haitian artist Gorges Laratte. The artist began his professional career as a potter, but changed mediums after a move to Port-au-Prince in the late fifties. He was educated in art at Foundation Vincent in Cap Haitian. Gorges Laratte actively worked in wood from 1958- 1973, when again changed mediums this time to stone. There are carved signatures reading ‘Laratte’ to the underside.
