Antique Hand-Knotted Anatolian Kars Accent Rug
Item Details
An antique Anatolian Kars accent rug. This tribal wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of camel, rose, mocha, and cream. It begins with a hexagonal medallion with arrow pendants, the medallion enclosing a quatrefoil floret, pinwheels, and geometric motifs. The medallion rests on a rose-grounded, irregular lozenge, which, in turn, rests on a cream-colored field, the corners of which repeat the motifs featured in the medallion. Framing the field are six borders. These include a leaf and calyx primary border grounded in cream, two repeating ‘S’ border grounded in rose, and three checkered thin borders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with undyed wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
