19th c. Pennsylvania Tall Case Clock Attrib. to Benjamin Solliday
Item Details
An early 19th century, Pennsylvania cherry tall case clock attributed to Benjamin Solliday. The cherry clock freatures a hood with a broken pediment accented with urn finials and features four side columns, a glass front door that opens to a painted floral backdrop surrounding a white face with black Arabic numbers and hands and calendar aperature. The clock case features a hinged wood door with weights and pendulum and a square plinth base on four bracket feet. The clock face is labeled ‘Benjamin Solliday’ and no winding hole are present.
*Benjamin Solliday was the son of Frederick Solliday and the brother of Jacob Solliday and was active as a clockmaker in Sellersville, Pennsylvania in the late eighteenth century. He was the father of George and Samuel, both also noted clockmakers.
