Hand-Knotted Persian Bijar Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Bijar area rug. This wool rug is finely hand-knotted in a palette of crimson, cerulean, midnight blue, and cream. It begins with a fringed hexagonal medallion with bright pendants at top and bottom, the medallion enclosing a smaller medallion of the same shape but in midnight blue. These rest on a hexagonal lozenge grounded in crimson, the lozenge, in turn, resting on a midnight blue field with cerulean spandrels. Each phase, from the central medallion to the spandrels, is filled with a classic herati pattern. Framing the field are eight borders, including a primary samovar border over cream. The primary border is flanked on either side by floral and medahil minor borders. Selvedges are overcast and include protective strips along the underside. The rug finishes at top and bottom with short kilim skirts and long ivory fine-wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
