An antique collection of four woodcut illustrations from the influential Iconologia by Cesare Ripa (Italian, 1555-1622), collecting emblems from Classical representations of ‘virtues, vitij, human passions, affections, acts, disciplines, humor, elements, celestial bodies, rivers, rivers, and other infinite subjects pertain to every state of the people’. This includes Intrepidita’ (page 291), Roma (page 317), Italia et Roma (page 307), and Imaginatione (page 272). Each is titled below and presented with French mats under glass in black and gold tone wooden frames that are wired for hanging. A sticker to the verso of the frames read, ‘Certificato di Garanzia Stampa originale Epoca 1600.’

- minor staining; light wear to frame finish; lower right corner of,Imaginatione frame is loose.
