Hand-Knotted Baluch Tribal Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Baluch tribal wool rug. This small area rug is rendered in a palette of deep burgundy, gray, and brown, with camel highlights. It begins with three central medallions over a small gray field. The medallions each start with a small eight-pointed star in camel and brown over red, this phase enclosed in an octagonal burgundy frame, which in turn is framed with small ram’s horn hooks. Framing the field are numerous wraparound borders containing geometric or stylized floral patterns. Narrow horizontal panels at top and bottom feature comb-like diagonal bands in camel, gray, and red over burgundy. Selvedges are souble overcast, the rug finishing at either end with tan kilim skirts and undyed tan wool warp fringe. Tags on the reverse have numerical codes; otherwise, the rug is unlabeled.
