A hand-knotted Mahindra area rug by Black Mountain Looms. This Indian-made wool rug features a Persian-style design in a vegetable-dyed palette of camel, red, and pink with black highlights. It begins with an allover pattern of arabesqued palmettes, lancet leaves, flowers, and vines over a camel-colored field. Framing the field are four borders, including a primary border containing a stylized herati pattern over red. The primary border is flanked on either side by mirrored guard borders featuring meandering leaves and pink flowers over camel. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with long tan and ivory cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Carpet without child labour’ in tooled leather on the reverse.
