Vintage Power-Loomed Williamsburg Foundation "Turkish Church" Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage power-loomed Turkish Church wool area rug by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. The Williamsburg Foundation reproduces rugs and other items that furnished notable Williamsburg homes in the Colonial era. This rectilinear rug reproduces a Turkish Oushak rug, in a variegated palette of vermillion, indigo, camel, cream, and brown. It begins with a vermillion lozenge seeded with a small floret at the center. Populating the lozenge are symmetrically arranged palmettes, flowers, leaves, and vines. The lozenge rests on an indigo field filled with stylized oak leaves, pinwheels, and florets. Framing the field are six borders, including a primary border featuring turtle medallions over camel. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with applied ivory fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.
- Please note, this is an item that may be especially difficult to move and/or transport. Unless shipping arrangements are available and made by the winning bidder, that individual is advised to bring appropriate assistance, vehicle, proper materials, and any necessary tools to pickup.
