A hand-knotted Persian Arts and Crafts pomegranate area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a variegated palette of black, teal, cornsilk, and mauve. It features a lattice pattern of stylized tree branches, with leaves and buds, amid which rest two large pomegranates, rendered in teal, along the central axis. Framing the field are four borders including a primary border containing meandering oak leaves in gray and black alternating with leaves in gray and mauve, over a cornsilk ground. The primary border is flanked on either side by stylized meandering ribbons over gray. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and knotted fine wool warp fringe. A label on the reverse reads ’Aria’s Oriental Rugs.’
