An original oil painting on canvas depicting a coastal seascape by British artist George Hanmer Croughton (1843-1920). The painting depicts sea waves crashing into a coast with large rock formations. The painting is signed and dated ‘1908’ to the lower right. It is presented in a gold-tone gilt and gesso frame with high-relief foliate molding.
Condition
large varnish stains throughout painting; small spots of paint loss present to upper left, along left edge, and along lower left edge of painting; two noticeable spots of gilt loss present along upper cove of frame; chips throughout frame, scratches, and small cracks scattered throughout frame; gilt throughout frame is extremely discolored and appears very dulled.
