A scrimshaw-style engraving on imitation ivory after Bateau de Guerre, an etching by engraver Franz Huy (1522-1562) from a piece by genre artist Pieter Bruegel (1525-1569). This detailed work depicts a trio of warships approaching a low-walled castle, a plume of smoke rising into the cloud-filled sky. This work is marked ‘F.H. Brugel’ to the lower right corner, and is presented on a yellow textile backing in a carved wood frame with D-rings to facilitate hanging to the verso.

- fair; minor fraying and staining to textile backing; tearing and staining to verso; discoloration to imitation ivory; wear to frame.
