Hand-Knotted Indo-Heriz Area Rug
Item Details
A room-sized Indo-Heriz area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of deep navy blue, salmon, cerulean, and cream. It features a curvilinear Persian-floral design beginning with a large star medallion grounded in cream and enclosing a smaller, salmon-grounded medallion. Populated with palmettes, lancet leaves, vines, and flowers, the medallions on a field of deep navy. The field, in turn, is populated with delicate vines, lancet leaves, palmettes, and boteh. Spandrels reprise the palette and filler of the central medallion. The field is framed by eight borders, including a major border featuring a stylized herati pattern over salmon. Minor borders contain florals over cream or cerulean. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and ivory wool warp fringe. Unlabeled.
