A pair of oil portraits on canvas of a man and woman by Scottish-born artist Dorothy Dunnett (1923-2001). Both portraits feature half-body three-quarter views of the subject. One features a middle-aged woman wearing earrings and a pearl necklace; with a stern expression on her face, she looks off to the left but turns her body to the right. The other portrait features a middle-aged man wearing a green jacket, with a stern expression on his face, his body is turned to the left. No signature was found on either painting. Both works are presented in matching gold-tone wood frames with matching relief patterns. Labels from Artful Framer are present to the verso of both.
Dorothy Dunnett was born in Scotland and is better known as a historical novelist. She exhibited her art work at the Royal Scottish Academy and was granted an OBE in 1992.
Condition
- minor paint loss scattered throughout both paintings, especially present near lower edge of woman painting; scratches and white scuff marks present near upper edge of woman painting; minor scratches and small chips in both frames.
