Japanese Satsuma Ceramic Vase with a Guardian Lion

A Japanese Satsuma ware ceramic vase. The gilt decorated vase with an everted lip and tapered body is decorated with haloed figures. The figural base is in the form of a lion with gilt decoration. It is marked ‘Satsuma, Hodota’ (薩摩、保土田) beneath a Shimazu mon on the underside.
