A collection of antique brown and white English Aesthetic Movement transferware ironstone dishes by Gildea & Walker and J. Dimmock & Co. The Kitemarks on the back of the pieces date them to the late nineteenth century. The collection is comprised of pieces of Melbourne by Gildea and Walker and J. Dimmock & Co .Warwick . A set of set of six round, shallow bowls or dishes, featuring designs depicting stylized palm trees, birds, boats on the water and geometric patterns. A square pedestal serving dish with a matching lid has two handles on the sides of the bottom portion and a handle on the lid. It is decorated with a brown transferware patchwork pattern of geometric and floral motifs. It comes with a separate, pierced insert, which fits inside. A brown transferware teapot features a variety of motifs including cranes, flowers, and leaves. These pieces are marked ‘Melbourne G. & W. Late Mayers’ along with embossed numbers and other marks with slight variations. Also included are two matching, round bowls with brown transferware patterns, depicting a stag, flowers, and geometric patterns to the interiors. The bowls are marked ’J.D. & Co. Warwick, along with embossed marks.
Condition
- knob on the lid of the square dish was broken off and has been glued back on; the interior of the dish is heavily stained; crazing to the glaze throughout
- natural crazing of the glaze throughout
