Clintel Steed Oil Painting on Canvas "Nasa 747 Flying shuttle space ship #2"

Item Details

An oil painting on stretched canvas titled Nasa 747 Flying shuttle space ship #2 by listed artist Clintel Steed (New York, b. 1977), created in 2012. This abstract work, suggestive of a space ship overflying a verdant territory, features large gestural brushstrokes and thick impasto. The work is signed by the artist, titled, and dated to the verso.

Clintel Steed grew up in a predominantly African American and Pentecostal community, which is an evident influence to his paintings. His work is a personal dialogue with African American culture, contemporary politics, and the Biblical struggle between good and evil. Stylistically, much of his work is rendered in thick impasto and expressionistic brushstrokes loosely applied throughout his compositions. He acquired his formal artistic training at the Art Institute of Chicago receiving a BFA in 1999 and his MFA from Indiana University in 2001. During his artistic career, he presented his work in multiple locations including the Indiana University Art Museum, New York Studio School and the National Academy of Design, among others.
