English 19th C. Rococo Revival Papier-Mâché Slipper Chair Inlay and Gilding

Item Details

A 19th century English Rococo Revival papier-mâché slipper chair decorated in copious mother of pearl inlay with gilded decoration. The chair has a scalloped top rail and a solid seat back, the center cartouche having a floral motif surrounded by scrolled foliate decoration. Sloping low arm extend to the subtly shaped cane seat, decorated curved rail and cabriole legs.

Condition

- good to fair condition consistent with age. Some loss of papier-mâché to edges, scratches present throughout and some loss of painted detailing throughout.
- the cane seat is in good condition.
