A copper engraving on laid paper titled Madonna Nursing, printed from the original engraved plate of famed German printmaker and artist, Albrecht Dürer (1417 – 1528). Although this item has not been dated, foxing and signs of age are present. This engraving features the Virgin Mary nursing the baby Jesus basking in halos of light on a grassy landscape. The Virgin’s delicate fingers gently caress the child laying in her lap cushioned by the billows and folds of her dress. The image is rendered with detailed linework and values. It is signed and dated in plate to the lower left corner. Category number #15615 inscribed to the verso of the paper. Framer’s label attached to the verso. It is matted and presented in a wood frame under glass.

Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) was born in Nuremberg, Germany and was one of the artistic leaders of the Northern Renaissance. Dürer was best-known for his exquisite engravings and woodblocks, and revolutionizing print making by elevating it to an independent art form.
