An oil painting on canvas by listed German artist Walther Purschke (born 1924). The genre scene, titled The Formula, depicts a 17th-century scientist at work in his laboratory. It is signed ‘W. Purschke, München’ in black paint to the lower right. The work is presented without glass in a wooden frame with gold tone gesso embellishments. The frame verso includes a label from the W.T. Burger Co. with artist and title information.
