Hand-Knotted Persian Luri Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Luri area rug. This Southern Iranian tribal wool rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of madder red, black, salmon, and azure. It begins with three complete and two partial fused medallions arranged in a vertical row over an abrashed red field. The medallions each are seeded with a square floret at the center, fanned by eight parallelogram-shaped petals, while four arrows point in four directions. The medallions each are enclosed in a sawtooth band of blue-black, with out-pointing arrows. Flanking the central row of medallions on either side are partial medallions of the same design. The field is framed by five borders, including meandering carnation patterns, reciprocal sawteeth and pinwheels and diamonds. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at one end with cotton warp fringe and a hand-finished edge at the other. Unlabeled.
