Mary Cassatt Drypoint Etching "Looking into the Hand Mirror"

Item Details

Unsigned

A drypoint etching on laid paper, titled Looking Into the Hand Mirror, from a plate by well-known American Impressionist Mary Stevenson Cassatt (1844–1926). This softly-captured piece depicts a child on sitting her mother’s lap, arms outstretched to grasp the handle of a mirror that the mother is holding. The mother’s other hand rests gently on the child’s bare shoulder, and there, as in a few other places throughout the image, the viewer can see the delicate lines and hatching used to render depth and shadow. The piece is numbered 26437 and is not signed, and there is a certificate of authenticity from Atlas Galleries, along with a tag noting the title and artist, hanging from the verso. This piece is presented behind glass in a gold tone frame with a cream and gold tone liner, with wire for hanging to the verso.
