Item Details

A provincial Louis XV style fauteuil by Century Chair Company. The wooden, walnut-stained frame features a caned, cartouche-shaped back with a foliate-carved crest above a caned seat flanked by open arms. The back is fitted with a button-tufted, half-cushion and the seat has a removable, button-tufted cushion. Both cushions are upholstered in red fabric patterned with butterflies, cherubs, peacocks, and swans. The chair rises on cabriole legs centered by a scrolled, serpentine apron. The legs are joined by cross-stretchers and they end in elevated, whorl feet. The underside retains a tag marked ‘Century Chair / Company / Hickory, N.C.’
