Cloisonné Replica of the "Gansu Flying Horse"

A cloisonné replica of the Chinese Gansu Flying Horse, a bronze sculpture from the Eastern Han dynasty (circa 2nd century CE). This piece depicts a running horse, with the right front leg extended, and the left bent up to the body. The running horse, seeming to fly, trods upon a swallow under hoof. The horse and separate swallow are rendered in vibrant enamels. A peg in the horse’s hoof fits into the swallow. Produced by the Smithsonian Institute, the piece is housed in a fabric covered box and includes an information sheet.
