A vintage Japanese hanging scroll featuring a portrait of Daruma. Also known as Bodhidharma, Daruma is the popular Japanese name for the Indian monk credited with bringing Chan (Zen) Buddhism to China. He is depicted robed, with wide eyes, and with prominent facial hair. Two inscriptions alongside three red seals are present in the lower half of the painting. The work on paper is mounted as a hanging scroll on indigo paper-backed silk.
