Ink Wash
A 1957 graphite and ink wash drawing on paper by listed American artist Leonard Baskin (1922-2000). The piece, titled The Angels Were Seized With Trembling, depicts an ominous abstract landscape to the lower left, surrounded by a circle of calligraphy in black. To the right an angel is depicted with wings spread, while additional calligraphy in red is present to the lower center. It is signed ‘Baskin 1957’ in black ink to the lower left. The work is mounted to off-white backing paper and presented under glass in a wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- to Fair; toning to paper; nicks and edge wear to frame; paper has come loose from backing and is slightly rippled inside frame, especially to edges; title adhered to frame glass; loose joints to frame; staining and wear to linen liner; tears to backing paper.
