An oil painting on canvas portrait of a seated nude by listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1936. A fauvist style full length portrait of a woman seated in a chair is depicted among a background of colored tapestries. Signed to the lower left in paint. The work remains unframed.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
