A gouache and watercolor painting of boats by artist James Campbell Howard. This impressionist painting on paper depicts single-masted sailboats gliding across a calm body of water rendered with a pastel color palette. The painting is presented under glass beneath layered matting, which contains a handwritten artist signature and printed artist credit to the margins. This is placed in a speckled gold tone wooden frame with affixed hanging wire and a written note of provenance to the verso, indicating that this might have been exhibited in Essex in 1933.
