19th Century Alexander Black Scottish Longcase 8-Day Clock

A 19th century, Georgian style, Scottish longcase 8-day clock by Alexander Black, circa 1840-1870. This clock, dating to the second to third quarter of the 19th century features a flame and burl mahogany veneer casing with a broken pediment decorated with two metal rosettes flanking a brass, spherical finial. The dial is surrounded by hand-painted spandrels with a ‘rocking swan’ feature above the dial. The dial features roman numerals, an inset secondhand dial and a 31-day calendar dial, two winds and is marked ‘Alex Black Kirkcaldy’ to the center. The casing of the clock features turned columns to either side of the dial, turned stiles flanking the center door which opens to the pendulum, above a square base with ogee bracket feet and a carved apron.
