Salvador Dalí Signed Artist Proof Etching and Engraving "Napoleon"

Item Details

An original artist’s proof mixed media etching and engraving on paper by very well-listed Spanish Surrealist Salvador Dalí (1904 – 1989), titled Napoleon. The image is created with loose linework printed in sepia tone ink. In the background, an image after Jacques-Louis David’s famed painting Napoleon Crossing the Alps is printed with hasty linework. In the foreground, a winged man sits on a large boulder. The print is signed in pencil to the lower right and is labeled ‘E.A’ (which stands for Epreuve d’Artiste, French for Artist’s Proof) in pencil to the lower left. A ram’s head watermark is visible to the lower right. It is matted in white and presented behind glass in a wooden frame with silver and bronze-tone metallic finishes. A hanging wire is attached to the verso. Included in the Catalogue Raisonné, “The Official Catalog of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dali” by Albert Field, catalogue field 70-8 on page 58.
