Framed Botanical Colored Engravings From B. Maund Volume
Item Details
A collection of framed botanical color engravings after works by Benjamin Maund. This listing includes the title page and eight framed presentations of pages from the botanical publication authored by Benjamin Maund, F.L.S. (England, 1790 – 1863) titled The Botanic Garden: Consisting of Highly Finished Representations of Hardy Ornamental Flowering Plants, Cultivated in Great Britain; with Their Classification, History, Culture and Other Interesting Information . The original series was published in 18 volumes and includes 1248 color engraved illustrations. It was printed by Simpkin and Marshall, Stationers’ Hall Court: Sherwood & Co. Paternoster Row circa 1825 – 1851. Each page is professionally presented under glass in wooden frames with gold gilt finishes. The title page is matted in a yellow linen mat. The eight illustrated pages feature double-sided frames with color illustrations and text to one side and additional text about each plant to the verso; both sides are under glass. They hang by open ring hardware to the top rail.
Condition
– some marks to the frame edges.
Dimensions
– combined. The botanical frames measure approximately 8" wide x 9.5" high x 1" deep. The title page frame measures 9.5" wide x 11.75" high x 0.75" deep.
