A 1677 French sea chart by Pierre Du Val. Titled ’L’Ocean pres d’Europe, avec les Costes de France, d’Espagne, de Portugal, d’Angleterre. de Holande, de Danemarc & Suivant les Cartes Marines, les plus Nouvelles. 1677’. The sea chart shows Britain, Western Europe Scandinavia and the North Atlantic, and the north part of Africa. Its hand colored having a faint plate mark to edge, with a Kimmen Line; indicating a depth of 100 fathoms from Norway to just west of the Shetland Isles. There a large compass rose with radiating rhumb lines and a second compass rose in the Mediterranean. There is a decorative title cartouche embellished with fighting vessels and a figurehead to top left corner.
