Sir Jacob Epstein Cast Bronze Sculpture "Tiyi (Head of Girl)"

Item Details

A cast bronze sculpture by well-listed British sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein (1880-1959). Titled Tiyi (Head of Girl), this depicts a the head of young girl with a pointed chin, large eyes, and slightly pursed lips with braided and curling hair. This work is signed on the back of the neck ‘Epstein 2’, and marked ‘L 1218/26’ inside. It is mounted upon a black marble base. It is presented with a catalog from the Jewish Museum of New York for their 1961 exhibition Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings by Contemporary Artists from the Private Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Israel London, that is work was displayed within.

Condition

- head is loose on base and leans forward; two small chips to upper edge of marble and a few small scuffs; wear to patina on edge of nose; accompanying catalog has fold marks from use and toning.
