Hand-Knotted Persian Bijar Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Bijar area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of crimson, forest green, deep midnight blue, and pink. Beginning with a small hexagonal medallion at the center of the field, the design features a herati pattern that continues through lozenges, the field, and the spandrels in phases of crimson, green, and ivory. In classic Bijar style, one of the lozenges is fringed and has pendants at top and bottom. Framing the field are ten borders. These include a primary turtle border over midnight blue and meandering carnation and medahil minor borders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at either end with short kilim skirts and fine ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
