Vintage Perkins Brailler Typewriter

A vintage Perkins Brailler. This braille typewriter was originally designed by David Abraham in 1951. The device features six keys, which correspond to the six dots of the braille code, plus a larger space key to the center, and backspace and line space keys at either side of the keyboard. There are two knobs on either side that control a grooved roller to hold and move the paper through the machine. A small plaque to the front reads ‘Designed by David Abraham, Manufactured and Distributed by Howe Press, Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, Mass., 02172, USA’. It is numbered N8972 and comes with the original user’s manual and directions.
