African Luba Tribe Carved Wood Drum

A carved wood African tribal drum. This Luba tribal work depicts female and male figures and a drum that all appear to be carved from one piece of wood. It has an animal hide stretched over the top of the resonating chamber. The figures are posed back to back as they support the drum with their arms and heads that have linear plated coiffures, in fine Luba style.The Luba tribe is from Congo in Central Africa. This piece is unsigned and unmarked.

Condition

- to fair; shows wear to the finish throughout; notable wear and chipping at base; evidence of repair with metal joinery to larger crack at base of female figure.
