An original 1843 oil painting on canvas by an artist named M.C. Patten. The stunning work features Classical-style buildings lining the rippling waters of a picturesque Venetian canal. A gondola makes its way across the foreground, and tall sailboats rise along the left margin of the scene. A pastel glowing sky illuminated with vivid blue, orange, and lavender fills the background of the scene. The painting is signed and dated in black paint to the lower right. It is presented in a contemporary plein air wooden frame with gold tone finish and a hanging wire.

- light foxing and accretion to painting’s surface. Blacklight technology reveals significant inpainting to lower left corner, lower edge, and a patch to the upper right.
