Hand-Knotted "Old Peking" Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Old Peking carpet runner. This wool rug, likely made in Turkey, is rendered in a classic Old Peking palette of royal blue, azure, cream, ivory, and gold. It begins with three round medallions, each featuring depictions of a phoenix-like creature. The medallions rest on a royal blue field, which features an allover diamond-tile lattice pattern, the tiles enclosing cruciform shapes at the center surrounded by four in-pointing arrows. Framing the field is a main border featuring a Chinese fret key pattern over royal blue, which is the color of the outerguard border. Selvedges are double overcast. Ends finish with white wool warp fringe. The rug is tagged to the reverse.
