Collection of Confederate Banknotes Circa 1861-1864

A very generous collection of Confederate States of America banknotes, obsolete notes, and fractional currency, circa 1861 through 1864. This grouping includes fourteen bank notes in total with a 50 dollar, (2) 20 dollar, (6) 10 dollar, (3) 5 dollar, 2 dollar, and 10 cent fractional note. The collection features the CSA $50 banknote circa April of 1863; (2) CSA $20 banknotes circa September of 1861; CSA $10 dollar banknote circa September of 1861, with a hand written serial number ‘48882’; CSA $10 banknote circa July of 1861, with a hand written serial number ‘10447’; CSA $10 banknote circa September of 1862; CSA $10 banknote circa December of 1862; CSA $10 banknote circa April of 1863 with a hand written serial number that appears to read ‘71771’; CSA $10 banknote circa February of 1864 with a hand written serial number ‘112321’; $5 banknote circa December of 1862; CSA $5 dollar bank note circa April of 1863 with a hand written serial number ‘41310’; ‘The State Of North Carolina’ $2 obsolete currency banknote circa October of 1861 with a hand written serial number ‘1734’; and one 10 cent fractional bank note circa 1874 bearing vignette of William M. Meredith to the obverse. Several of these bank notes also feature hand written signatures along the bottoms – most of which are badly faded. Nearly all of these were printed in Richmond, Virginia.

Condition

- Fair to Poor. Very heavy damage to most pieces – some worst than others. Several are stored in protective sleeves (7). Hand written serial numbers and signatures are very faded or completely faded all together – (12 out of 14 are signed).
