"The Discussion" Original Oil Painting by Edgar Bundy (1862-1922)

Item Details

A 19th century oil painting on canvas by well listed English artist Edgar Bundy, A.R.A. (1862-1922) titled The Discussion. The painting is illustrative in style, historically capturing in detail an interior scene with men in period dress, tapestries and a Persian rug draped over a Jacobean table. The painting is executed in fluid brushstrokes and a rich palette, the influence of the Dutch masters evident. The artist’s signature is found in the lower right corner and the period carved frame bears a brass placard with the title and the artist’s name in the center.

Edgar Bundy was primarily self taught, he painted both historical and genre scenes. As a young artist, he spent time in the studio of Alfred Stevens (1817-1875). He exhibited for the first time at the Royal Academy in 1881, then at the Paris Salon in 1907. In 1915 he was elected as an Associate of the Royal Academy.
