A carved wooden sculpture of a Kenyan figure. The work depicts an abstract standing female nude mounted to a rounded base. The tall, slender figure is marked with incised patterns to the limbs and torso. It is otherwise unmarked.

The African art pieces in this sale were acquired by the previous owner while living in rural Kenya in the 1960s and 1970s. The collector admired the art of Wakamba artisans and loved supporting their work. His admiration eventually spread to the work of artisans from throughout the continent.

Condition

- crack to base near one foot, where piece has separated from the rest of the base; chips and scratches to base; overall surface wear, especially to edges.
