Antique Japanese Ningyō Dolls

Item Details

A pair of antique Japanese Ningyō dolls. The cloth bodied dolls feature a geisha dressed in kimono playing the shamisen. Also featured is a male figure wearing an elaborate armored helmet. The dolls stand on black lacquered bases.

Collected in the late 19th and early 20th century and donated to a Private Midwestern Institution in 1938
Sold to enhance and preserve the Institution’s mission-relevant Collections

Condition

Consistent with age; minor markings and wear throughout; slight discoloration and deterioration of fabric; shamisen not attached to doll
